A few technical difficulties, a broken bagpipe and the non-appearance of the rescue helicopter didn’t hinder the ceremony held today at the Sunderland Marine Pier as part of the Blessing of Nelson’s fishing fleet.

The ceremony, led by Bishop Richard Elena, Reverend Jeff Cotton, Father David Gruschow and Archdeacon Andy Joseph payed tribute to those who have lost their lives at sea, along with the blessing of fishing vessels in the lead up to the hoki season.

Songs were sung from both the Nelson Male Voice Choir and the Nelson Christian Academy.
