We’re well into spring but with the recent stormy weather, the season had one more surprise in store, bringing snow back to the Rainbow Ski Area.

Snow began falling yesterday afternoon, settling in and snowing harder just before dark and lasting until just after 10am this morning.

However with the ski feild closed for the season, there were only two people up there to enjoy it, mountain manager Johnny Dick and workshop foreman Mark Busbridge who is fixing all the machinery ahead of next season.

Mark, otherwise known as ‘Buzz’ says it’s beautifully white up on the feild.

“It’s a bit of a shock really, we weren’t expecting any more snow but the weather up here was pretty miserable yesterday and as the temperatures dropped the rain turn to snow

“There were a good couple of centimetres down to the treeline and it was still snowing this morning. It’s a bit of a nuisance for us but it does look pretty nice up here.”

However, Mark says with the sun heating things up he doesn’t expect the snow to last.

“The sun was up first thing this morning so a lot of it has dissappeared but the peaks are still very white, it’s not going to hang around but it’s nice while it lasts.”
