A Nelson jeweller has been told to pull down his “cheeky” billboards that mimic an election advertisement.
Glen James erected seven billboards in various spots around Nelson last week but was quickly contacted by Nelson City Council and told they break the advertising rules around the city and must come down.
Candidates are allowed to erect billboards for two months before the election and must be pulled down the day before it closes. There are strict rules around size and placement.
Because Glen’s billboards aren’t election hoardings he must have resource consent.
Glen says he did it for a bit of a laugh and to grab a bit of extra attention for his business. “They were quickly onto it though,” he says. “I got a call the very day they went up, the guy wasn’t too happy.”
