A 26 year old woman has been charged after she allegedly drove her car into her 40 year old uncle on Wakefield Quay this morning.
The man is currently in Nelson hospital where he has undergone surgery after his leg was amputated at the scene of the crash.
The woman was charged with Wounding with Intent to Cause Grievous Bodily Harm and will appear in Nelson District Court this afternoon.
The driver of the vehicle had left the scene before handing herself into police later this morning.
The accident blocked traffic this morning with Nelson bound traffic from Tahunanui being diverted over the hill and into Washington Valley.
Police would like to speak to anyone who saw the incident. They should contact Nelson CIB.
