Nelson College for Girls principal Cathy Ewing is used to addressing an audience in the school’s main hall, but doing it while strutting and posing was something new.
The principal was a surprise guest model at the Spring Fashion Fling at the school on Saturday night.
The event was organised by the school’s PTA as a fundraiser. Head of the PTA Brenda Holdaway says $3400 was raised from the show, which featured students and staff modelling clothes from local retailers.
Brenda says she was happy with the turnout.
“It was a very successful night which has set the stage for future events to be held. The students and teachers who modelled made the event the success it was just by being so fantastic on stage. The crowd loved watching them.”
A huge range of spot prizes was donated by local businesses, including a car from Bowater Hyundai for a weekend to get to two nights’ accommodation in Hanmer Springs.
The money raised from the show will be used to buy video cameras and document cameras for the classroom.
Brenda says the event will happen again.
“We learned a lot from that show and there are some things we will do differently next time but it was a fantastic night and it was great to see everyone up on the catwalk.”
