The Nelson Junior Winter Tennis Open turned into a full one day tournament with rain causing play to be abandoned on Sunday for the rest of the tournament.
Wakefield’s Marshall Hore had a very successful tournament in the 10’s boys beating the third seed Jenner Johnson from Canterbury 9-7 in the quarter final and then knocking out second seed Diego Quispe-King of Canterbury 9-7 in the semi-final. Marshall then met the top seed from Otago, Thomas Hartono who was too strong, winning the match 0-9. In the 10’s girls Kyla Otway from Marlborough was too strong for Tasman’s Kate Edens winning the match 6-9.
The 12’s boy’s plate final was a close encounter between Nelson’s Renze van Duijn and Harry McLauchlin. The match went down to the wire with Harry winning 9-8.
Sasha Glotov won the 14’s boys final over Joshua Snowdon-Poole and in the play off for third and fourth place Marlborough’s Lee Harbone was too strong for Tasman’s Sam Edens with Harborne taking third place 0-6, 1-6.
Nelson’s top junior Henry Neas had a convincing semi-final win before meeting Wellington’s Pratt Keerasuntonpong who proved to be too strong for the local, winning the match 6-0, 6-1.
