Locals rallied to make sure pink was not only in fashion last Thursday night, but that it also raised plenty for the Nelson Regional Breast Cancer Trust.

The spotlight was shone on breast cancer while women spent the night pouring over collections of clothing and makeup, drinking bubbles and showing their support for the Pink is InFashion fundraiser last week.

Local businesses Shine, Cardells and many others donated products and vouchers to the evening’s auction, and spot prizes were given out throughout the course of the night.

The event was held at Jays Fashions on Bridge St, and owner Karen Jordan says hosting the fundraiser was fantastic and she was impressed with the turnout.  “I think there are around 70 here, it’s a huge turnout, hosting it here at the shop just gets the cause out in the open, and it’s great to see local’s showing their support.”

Around $2220 was raised from the auction and will go towards helping Nelson women with costs involved with travelling for radiotherapy.

Surgeon Ros Pochin was the guest speaker for the event and says the evening was a great get together to empower women with breast cancer. “The trust is a great local resource for local women.”

Trustee Kate Coote says she was really pleased with the event. “There is always so much support for us, everybody gives so generously, and the best thing is, it stays local.”

The trust is gearing up for its next big fundraiser Boot Camp for Breast Cancer set to happen on October 28 at Nelson College for Girls. For more information visit www.bc4bc.co.nz.
