Ever wondered what goes on inside a man’s shed? Well, all will be revealed this Sunday when ten hobbyists and collectors open their garage doors to the public for a fundraising trail that maps through Nelson and Richmond.
Thousands of beer bottles, once made to case alcohol, now stored away in a garage and worth hundreds of dollars to collectors will be on display at one of ten stopovers with others showcasing model railways, Model T Fords, trucks and tractors, speed bikes, tools, and much more.
Lindsay Jukes has thousands of collectables, including bottle openers, patent cures and medicine bottles, glass cups and locally designed tea pots, although his first passion was for beer bottles, one of which is worth a staggering $1200. The Blokes in Sheds Trail is a fundraiser for the Life Education Trust which teaches health education to children at most schools in Nelson. Because the non-profit organisation is not government funded, it relies on fundraising events such as this to continue to operate. Organiser Marg Palmer hopes a successful inaugural event will springboard to more down the line. “You have garden and kitchen trails but this is something for the blokes. We thought this was something different we could do and hopefully we will claim it as ours,” she says.
Tickets for the trail can be purchased for $15 at any ANZ branch, Specsavers in the Richmond Mall, Baku on Queen St and from Mitre 10 Mega.
To win a free double pass email “Blokes in Sheds” and your contact details to editorial@nelsonweekly.co.nz. The winner will be drawn on Friday. For more information on the event please phone 544 4716.
