It’s an event unlike any other on the local event calendar and it didn’t disappoint, with dozens of cowboys making the journey to Richmond Park only for most of them to make another quick trip to the arena’s dirt floor.
Hundreds attended the rodeo says organiser Tina Angus Phyn, making it a massive day. “We were absolutely thrilled with the gate takings and we need that to pay the bills, so we’re rapt.”
She says the crowd really got into the event, especially when the action heated up. The support from competitors was just as strong. “The cowboys have come back to us saying ‘this is awesome, this is the best rodeo, thank you guys’. So the feedback is great.”
In the competition Patrick McCarthy won the rope and tie, and he teamed up with Kate Haugh to win the team roping comp. Ross Dowling won the bareback, Wade Marshall won the saddle bronc and Henrietta Purvis won the barrel race and Jimmy Booth won the bull ride.
