It was all autumn smiles on Sunday with 271 women and girls getting their taste of what it’s like to “foot, pedal and paddle” the McFadden McMeeken Phillips Lawyers Nelson Women’s Triathlon.
Carol Cooper lead them all home for the second year and her upcoming overseas departure will be a big loss to the local multisport community. Her biggest thrill for the day though was lining up on the Branford Park startline with daughter Georgina alongside her.
Kim Waddell and Hayley Beaton were both in the last lane at Riverside Pool swimming for second, with Kim having the edge.
Lyn Smith first entered seven years ago and she has worked hard, moving up the placings each year in the walkers category. Yesterday she was absolutely rapt to achieve her goal of winning the event.
Streets Ahead Hairdressing, made up of Kayla Crimp-Palmer and Nicola Fisher, were literally that in the run section of the NBS Workmates Challenge, taking it out easily.
Twenty mother and daughter pairings added interest in the Nelson Marlborough Insurance Brokers Generation Challenge with Wendy and Erin de Maat dominating the walk, but it was a closer affair in the run with Nicola Fisher and Glenda Robinson getting over the line first.
