The Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle is reaching new depths, announcing that new semi-submersible vessel will be joining its fleet in spring.
Nicknamed “Mollymawk,” the 17.8 metre long vessel is described as a “state of the art semi-submersible which allows people of all ages and abilities to explore the undersea worlds”.
It will be working in the Tonga Island marine reserve in the Abel Tasman National Park, and will enable passengers to explore through the kelp beds and habitats of the marine eco-system.
Paul Smith of Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle says this new vessel will allow people, other than divers, to experience the reserve.
“The marine reserve has been in place for 20 years now and the fish life and everything is coming back,” he says.
“Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle will transport people to the vessel which is positioned in the reserve and it’ll be run from there.”
Prices and an exact arrival date are yet to be confirmed by the company.
