The Walker family of Nelson has two new champions, after Hayley and Ben won their respective 5 girls and 9 boys titles at the Tasman Centre junior athletics championships held at Saxton Field at the weekend.

Hayley won the 60m, 80m and 100m sprint treble as well as the long jump to win her title, while older brother Ben won the 60m and 100m sprints and long jump. Hayley and Ben were two of the four Athletics Nelson competitors to win Tasman championships that were decided on the number of points gained in all the events.

Abby Morris won four events to take out the 7 girls title, Jordan Stirling-Rowling won four events to win the 12 boys.

Many of the athletes at the championships, which also featured competitors from Marlborough, Richmond, Motueka and Takaka, will be in action at Saxton Field again this Sunday when Tasman takes on Canterbury in a team’s competition.
