A dog that ran out onto the road while being walked along Lower Queen St appears to have been a factor in a two-vehicle collision that happened just before 4pm today.

“A woman was walking her dog on leash and it went onto the road and one of the cars swerved to miss it and hit the other one,” a witness told Nelson Live. “The woman checked the driver of the car to see if they were alright and then carried on.”

Police were interviewing another witness at the scene of the crash that happened between Gladstone Rd and McShane Rd.

Police say the driver of a van had pulled into the centre of the lane and stopped waiting to turn right. The vehicle following behind drove into the back of his vehicle.

It is unknown how many people were in the two vehicles although police say nobody was injured.

An ambulance attended the scene and inquiries are continuing.

Traffic on Lower Queen St between Gladstone Rd and McShane Rd was down to one lane as emergency services attended the accident.

Another incident occurred when a Post Haste courier van collided with backed up traffic on the Tahunanui side of the Whakatu roundabout.

Police say the courier was unable to stop in time and shunted the car in front into a third vehicle.

The incident happened around 5.10pm and inquiries are continuing.
