Poppies brighten up city

The Anzac spirit is starting to show around Nelson with poppies being displayed in several places, including The White House on Trafalgar Square.

The White House is a place for people with mild depression or anxiety and one of its visitors and this week it was given a decorated front fence with home-made poppies. The poppies were made by Marina White.

Staff member Graeme Williams says it adds a bit of colour to the front of the house and they’ve had plenty of comments already. “This is a busy road for people walking and people like them.”

Marina spent three months making the poppies and put them up herself.

Poppy Day is this Friday and the following Saturday is Anzac Day. This year marks 100 years since the Anzac forces landed on the beaches of Gallipoli.
