A significant water leak that appeared on Waimea Road earlier today is expected to be repaired later this afternoon.
The leak was initially though to have been a break in the water mains but council say it is now a straightforward repair job in a secondary pipe feeding Wakatu Lodge.
A council spokesperson says the road damage is caused by the burst ferrule, the pipe that takes water from the mains supply to a building.
The leak lifted the road surface near Wakatu Lodge and holding patches are being put in place before a permanent repair job is completed.
Council are advising road users to be careful traveling along Waimea Road as there may be delays.
Surrounding buildings may have their water supply affected.
