It was a perfect night for Nelson Opera in the Park, with 7500 people turning out to enjoy a first class lineup of New Zealand musicians.

The event was once again a huge success, says organiser Pete Rainey. “But you can’t really go wrong, people just love the opportunity to come out and relax in the park and listen to some nice music.”

The crowds came bearing blankets, chairs, picnics and a glass of bubbly or two, and settled in for two and a half hours of opera and contemporary-style music at Trafalgar Park on Saturday night. There was no particular crowd favourite amongst the lineup, which included singer Anna Leese, Jared Holt, Jubilation Choir, Jackie Clarke and kiwi icon Dave Dobbyn.

Nelson Opera in the Park also supported the Nelson School of Music’s $6.4 million re-strengthening project, donating the proceeds from the sale of it’s programme, while pledges from event goers saw another 50 seats added to the school of music’s ‘Take You Seat Campaign’.
