Metservice has issued a severe weather warning, saying a series of fronts over the Tasman Sea will bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to the region until Thursday morning.
Another 200mm of rain is forecasted for the Nelson and Richmond ranges, the brunt of which, is predicted to fall from 4pm this afternoon to 6am tomorrow morning.
A further 100mm is forecasted for coastal Nelson areas.
This significant amount of rain has Metservice warning that streams and rivers will rise rapidly, slips and surface flooding are also possible.
