Construction of the new Saxton Velodrome continues to benefit from an extended period of good weather.
Drainage digging and a number of engineering requirements are being done, with banking looking to set over winter.
Saxton Velodrome Trust trustee Paul Jennings says while the project may not look like much more than a hole in the ground at this stage, progress is being made.”
“It’s not in the most exciting stage at the moment but this long patch of fine weather is allowing us extra time to do this and we remain on track for a December opening at this stage.
“Everything is going very well and at this point it’s looking like a model project… Hopefully towards spring, people who drive past will be able to see more interesting things like the track being laid.”
Paul says the Trust is still looking for between $70 and $80,000 to finish the project but they are confident that money will be found.
The $1.6million project is a joint venture between Nelson City Council, Tasman District Council and the Trust, with the Trust expected to contribute $300,000.
Work began on the project in June last year, with a hopeful completion date of December 2016.
