The Nelson Giants have kept their slim NBL playoff hopes alive with a 91-77 over the winless Hawke’s Bay Hawks at the Trafalgar Centre tonight.

The Mike Pero Giants bucked their season trend by flourishing in the third quarter.

They outs cored the Hawks 31-18 in that quarter after the game was tied at 41-all at halftime.

Ben Strong had a breakout game.

He had a double-double with 29 points and 11 rebounds.

His trademark hook shot was on song as was the rest of his game.

Ray Cowels also hit 27.

Veteran Hawk Paoro Winitana added 21 off the bench for the visitors.
