It’s taken ten years, but finally Tahunanui Drive has a pedestrian refuge near the Tahuna Medical Centre.
Mayor Rachel Reese cut the ribbon on the new refuge on Friday morning.
The $60,000 refuge allows pedestrians to stop in the middle of the road and wait until there is a gap in the traffic and they can cross safely. Supporters of the new refuge include the Tahuna Community Centre and the Tahuna Business Association and they say it will allow folk to get from one side of the village to the other.
Also at the opening was Nelson City councillors Paul Matheson, Ian Barker and Eric Davy.
