The Tahunanui Tennis Club has relaid two of its four courts as it has one eye on its centenary in 2022.

President John Lovelock says the club’s committee had been working on finding and implementing the plan for two years, and the courts were officially opened on Saturday.

John says it cost the club $51,000 to do but it was a good investment in the future.

“The courts need replacing every 15 years and because we are on the main road, our courts get used a lot, especially the two furthest from the road that we have now upgraded.”

The club’s new sand-based artificial courts will allow its 65 members the best of facilities and also ensure junior players have the best chance to continue to improve their game.

The club plays on a Saturday, but it is the popularity with junior players wanting coaching that causes the wear and tear on the courts.
