The Black Sticks women’s hockey team will play for a bronze medal for the second straight Olympics after a 3-0 defeat to Great Britain in Rio this morning.
The team, which features Nelson players Anita McLaren and Kelsey Smith were unable to find the back of the net after conceding a goal in the second quarter of play.
Two penalty strokes in the final quarter put the result beyond doubt.
New Zealand finished a heart-breaking fourth in London four years ago.
The Black Sticks will play Germany for the bronze medal on Saturday morning at 3am (NZT).
