Nelson 1500m runner Julian Matthews has missed out on a semi-final spot at the blue-riband Olympic event by one place in Rio overnight.
Julian finished ninth in the first heat in a time of 3 minutes 40.40 seconds, and just missed out on one of the six fastest losers spots by one position, or 0.36 seconds.
Beijing silver medalist Nick Willis progressed comfortably however Hamish Carson also missed out.
