Locals and tourists were in for a treat when they took the Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle yesterday.
A group of atleast 20 dolphins and a lone seal delighted passengers, playing in the wake and around the sides of the shuttle.
Sport Tasman facilities general manager Brent Maru was on that shuttle with several of the Sport Tasman team and captured some footage of the playful pod.
“It was brilliant, we were just beyond Bark Bay and heading up the Abel Tasman and we found the pod three times, they came in really close to the boat and there was a rougue seal swimming amongst them and a couple of little [baby dolphins].”
Brent says it was awesome seeing that many dolphins so close, “I just wanted to jump in the water with them.
“When you see them up close like that you can really see their size and their power but they’re still so gentle and playful and certainly not scared of the boats.”
