Nelson Police have arrested a man following the alleged armed robbery of the Z service station on Halilfax St on Sunday night.
A 45-year-old man handed himself in to Police at Richmond yesterday morning.
Z Energy media liaison Jonathan Hill told Fairfax that the man was armed with a gun when he approached the sole station attendant on Sunday evening.
“As far as I’m aware it [the firearm] was not presented but the threat was very clearly made,” says Jonathan.
The man took less than $100 cash before fleeing on foot.
Following a public appeal for information, Police received a number of calls from members of the community identifying a person of interest.
“The response from the public has been very much appreciated and assisted in making a breakthrough in the case,” says Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Johnston.
The man is currently in custody and will appear in the Nelson District Court tomorrow charged with robbery.
