The power is likely to go out after a truck travelling north-east along The Ridgeway has taken out a power pole.
“We’ve had a bit of a car vs truck vs power pole situation,” says Stoke Station Officer Ryan Hitchcock.
“There was a car parked on the other side of the power pole and the truck has come by, clipped the car, and gone straight into the pole.”
The owner of the car was up having lunch in a nearby house when the crash happened and Ryan confirmed that the truck driver was unharmed and able to get out of the vehicle.
The Ridgeway has been cordoned off from Arapiki Rd to Marsden Rd as police and two Stoke fire appliances work with the power company to cut off the power and deal with the scene.
“We’ve got the power guys here now but it’s looking like they’ll have to cut the power and we think its part of the main line,” says Ryan.
“We’re waiting for the power to get cut off and then we’ll inspect the truck and there’s some wires down in people’s properties that have been ripped out of houses so we’ll inspect them and make sure they’re not going to spark and start a fire then we’ll hand the scene over to police.”
At this stage, it is unclear how many houses will be affected by the required power cut.
