A member of the public found more some human remains on Farewell Spit yesterday.
The discovery was reported to police shortly after midday.
Yesterday’s find was in a location close to where some human remains were found a week ago, about 8km along Farewell Spit.
Today’s find is being referred to the coroner. Post Mortem procedures and DNA testing will be required to try and establish the identity. Last week police recovered some human remains about 8km along Farewell Spit and they are undergoing a post mortem examination along with DNA testing. They said at the time that it was likely to take several weeks to complete.
“Police are keeping an open mind as to who the person may be, however we have been in contact with the family of missing Dutch tourist Ken Boogers who went missing in the Wharariki Beach area of Golden Bay to inform them of the discovery. They have been advised that police do not yet know the identity of the person and that identification will take some time.”
