Travelers from Nelson to Paraparaumu and vise versa now have a direct route with the announcement of Sounds Air’s new service to the kapiti Coast town from Nelson.

The scheduled air service is open for bookings and will begin flights on June 15 with a 7.50am departure from Paraparaumu to Nelson.

The journey will also cut travel time for commuters destined to Palmerston North after Air New Zealand cut their service from Nelson in November last year. The flight to Paraparaumu takes 40 minutes followed by an hours drive to Palmerston North.

The service will be fixed fared with adult tickets $135 and child tickets $125. Fares are $10 less if tickets are purchased online.

Sounds Air will operate two flights each way on weekdays as well as late afternoon flights on Sunday. They say they are very open to expanding the schedule but will be getting the initial service established before looking at additional flights.

They say the route is complementary to their existing services from Wellington to Picton, Blenheim, Taupo, Westport and Nelson.

Rob Evans CEO from the Nelson Airport says he welcomes the new route as it is very positive for the Airports growth and our local economy.

He says the new route will add up to 13,000 seats in and out of Nelson to Paraparaumu which is a good strategic link as Kapiti Coast is a high growth area.
