State Highway 7 between Springs Junction and Reefton (Rahu Saddle) has been closed this afternoon due to snow.
Sharon Knight was traveling to Hanmer Springs for a holiday with her friends. She says the closure and will mean they will have to detour through Kaikoura. They estimate an extra three hours will be added to their journey.
“It’s just the downer crew and road cones. The snow is quite heavy and it’s getting heavier. When we first arrived [in Spring Junction] the ground wasn’t really covered in snow and now it’s fully covered.”
An NZTA snow report is expected to be updated at 5pm.
