Smokefreerockquest regional winners Tetra didn’t gain direct entry into the national finals but the Nelson College for Girls team have a second chance to compete with a wildcard “People’s Choice” position up for grabs.

11 bands from around the country have made it into the national finals in September after submitting a video of their music and band processes. Another 19 bands are competing for text votes for a chance to make it as a People’s Choice Award finalist.

Tetra lead vocalist Madi Fulton Buckle says the band has been pushing for votes through social media and at school assembly for the national position.

She says she doesn’t think coming from a smaller city will hinder their chances going up against contenders from the main centres due to the fact there are only two contenders from Nelson Tasman. Garin College’s Future Class also have another chance to compete for the People’s Choice entry.

Votes for Tetra can be made by texting “TETRA” to 422. Texts cost 20c.
