What would you like to see in Nelson? It’s a question Nelson City Council is putting to the public as part of its review of the Nelson Resource Management Plan.

The council is keen to gather suggestions from Nelsonians about how to best manage the region’s natural and built environment, and feedback will be incorporated into the draft Whakamahere Whakatū Nelson Plan.

Nelson mayor Rachel Reese says the plan is an important document that acts as an ‘instruction manual’ for managing how Nelson grows and develops in the future, while protecting the region’s natural environment.

“Through this review, we want to know how, together, we can make the most of what our city is blessed with, so we can continue to attract people here and make it easy for them to stay,” she says.

“It’s about creating a Nelson that builds on the creativity that our city is renowned for, that facilitates new business ideas and encourages investment, and that cares for our natural assets such as our rivers, forests and beaches.”

The final plan will encompass all of Nelson’s Resource Management Plans, which include the Regional Policy Statement, Nelson Air Quality Plan and Nelson Resource Management Plan, into one integrated document.

The council will be collecting feedback up until 30 November via its website www.nelson.govt.nz/nelson-plan and feedback forms which have been delivered to households. Planning staff will also be at the Nelson Saturday market and other public events.

People can also give feedback via email to nelsonplan@ncc.govt.nz or to a planner by phoning 546 0200.
