Sewage has leaked into the ocean due to the recent heavy rain event.
Nelson City Council has issued a swimming and water contact ban until the water is safe once again.
At this stage the only areas confirmed to be contaminated are Tahunanui and the Port, however, if you’re brave enough to face a winter swim, please check for council signs to ensure the water is safe wherever you are in the region.
