The Unichem Hardy St Pharmacy has turned to social media in an effort to uncover the vandal/s that shattered their store window on Tuesday night.

A rock and the metal inner of a Nelson City Council rubbish bin were thrown against the pharmacy’s window overnight and owner John Handforth is not happy.

“One of the lovely ladies from Yaza saw it in the morning and rang the police who came around but we didn’t see it until we arrived at work.

“They didn’t breach the building, they just broke the glass,” says John who doesn’t think it was a break in attempt.

“If they had wanted to break in they could have done so I think that it was just someone who was obviously at a loose end on the night and just wanted to break a window.”

After feeling like the police were no longer investigating the incident, John turned to social media, offering a $250 reward for the name and address of the person/s who smashed the window on Facebook.

“[The police] really just issued it with a reference number and I’ll be blunt, I don’t tend to get a lot of joy from the police from situations like this so I thought we’d try and get a resolution ourselves.”

Despite recieving 38 shares and being posted on the popular Nelson Sippets page, John says he hasn’t had any information but is still hopeful.

“We’re hoping that someone who knows something will come forward.”

In the meantime, John says the support on Facebook is “very heartening” with several people posting word of support and sharing the post to help John find the vandal/s.
