The Malvern Avenue sewer system in Atawhai overflowed, sending sewage in the Nelson Haven this morning.
The overflow was caused by a blockage but the sewer was repaired within 90 minutes of the blockage being detected.
At an estimated 50 cubic metres, the overflow is very small so a water contact ban is not required.
However Council reminds the public that shellfish should not be collected from this area at any time.
